    This patient’s MRI showed moderate to marked contrast enhancement of the meninges. Meningitis was thought most likely, with differentials including GME, NME, and infectious disease. A diffuse neoplasm (e.g., CNS lymphoma) couldn’t be excluded. CSF analysis showed a markedly elevated protein and nucleated cell count with a mixed pleocytosis. Infectious disease tests were all negative. The dog was diagnosed with a meningoencephalitis of unknown etiology, presumed GME.

      You’re correct that we often see intraparenchymal lesion(s), but you don’t always with GME. There is a great range of MRI changes that have been reported, from normal brain MRI to focal lesions to severe multifocal or diffuse disease.
